Starry Moon Biology collaborates with Siremi to lead the development of the group standard for "Silk Protein for Cosmetics", and the project has entered the stage of soliciting opinions
Recently, the China Health Association issued a notice soliciting opinions on the group standard "Silk Protein for Cosmetics (Draft for Comments)" of the China Health Association. This marks the beginning of an important stage in the development of the "Silk Protein for Cosmetics" group standard project (Plan No.: 202406001), led by Xingyue Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Xingyue Biotechnology"), in collaboration with Siraimei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Siraimei") and several outstanding enterprises in the industry.

The development of this group standard aims to standardize the use of silk protein raw materials in the cosmetics industry, ensuring their safety, effectiveness, and controllable quality. As the leading units of the project, Xingyue Biotechnology and Siluimei fully utilized their respective research and development advantages and industry experience in the field of silk protein, and joined forces with multiple units in the industry to jointly promote the drafting and verification of standards.

During the standard setting process, the working group determined multiple contents including raw material names, usage purposes, applicable dosage forms, maximum usage amounts, technical requirements, testing methods, toxicology, stability, labeling, etc. through multiple discussions and arguments. Among them, the technical requirements section covers multiple aspects such as physical and chemical indicators, microbiological indicators, risk substances, and additives, aiming to comprehensively ensure the safe use of silk protein raw materials in cosmetics.
In terms of technical requirements, the standard clearly specifies key indicators such as sensory properties, net content, identification methods (including total amino acids and characteristic amino acids, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, etc.), nitrogen content, molecular weight, solubility, pH value, and impurity content of silk protein. The setting of these indicators not only refers to relevant domestic and foreign standards and specifications, but also fully considers the actual needs and characteristics of the cosmetics industry, ensuring the rationality and operability of the standards.
At the same time, in order to verify the scientificity and feasibility of the standards, various participating units also conducted a large amount of experimental verification work. Units such as Xingyue Biotechnology and Siluimei have respectively verified key indicators such as total amino acids, characteristic amino acids, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for silk fibroin protein, silk fibroin protein, and their hydrolysis products. The verification results all meet the standard requirements, further proving the rationality and reliability of the standard formulation.
It is reported that the development of the group's standards referred to multiple relevant standards and technical specifications at home and abroad, including SB/T10407-2007 "Silk fibroin and sericin", YY/T1950-2024 "Silk fibroin protein for tissue engineering medical devices", "Safety technical specifications for cosmetics" (2015 edition), and "Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China" (2020 edition). At the same time, the working group also conducted extensive experimental verification and data collection work to ensure the scientific and practical nature of the standards.

As well-known enterprises in the industry, Xingyue Biotechnology and Siraimei have joined hands to lead the development of the group standard for "Silk Protein for Cosmetics".
